Madagascar (2005)

Direcetd by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, Madagascar is a perfect slapstick comedy that children would definitely crave for but even the adults might not find it too boring.

Marty, the Zebra (Chris Rock) is among the many animals in the New York Zoo who are taken good care of. Yet, Marty wants to be set free to enjoy life in the wild. A failed escape saga later, he and his companions find themselves lost on an isolated beach where the all the animals now have to fend for themselves which leads to some pretty hilarious situations until they finally manage to land up in the wild i.e. Madagascar.

Acting wise, apart from Chris Rock, Ben Stiller is in superb form as Alex, a friendly lion and there's also good work from David Schwimmer as a hypochondriac giraffe.

But it is the attention paid to the background facets that makes Madagascar what it is. So we have party frenzy lemurs, psychotic penguins and a whole lot of weird characters. The writers must also be complemented for not involving the emotional aspect to a great extent in the cartoon and maintaining a hilarious narrative from start to end.

Coming from Dreamworks, the ones who gave us Shrek, Madagascar manages to give the audiences a great sense of comic relief and not many should feel disappointed after watching this comic caper.

zealously catering to kids
The grass is ‘almost’ always greener on the other side. This is precisely what four zoo inmates drink in, after spending a couple of days in their natural habitat- the wild.

When it comes to bone-tickling lunacy, Julian, the lemur king [Sacha Baron Cohen, Ali G] and the penguins, vocalized by the animators, take away the crown. Performances by Melman, the hypochondriac giraffe [David Schwimmer] and Alex, the pampered, attention craving lion [Ben Stiller] are very much commendable. Appropriately funny for children, the movie does not exactly fall under the category of one that can tickle an adult [despite including a tad bit of existentialism and a bit of New York humor]. All in all a simple and easygoing movie that actually can give you a bit of inspiration when it comes to being content with what you have.

One timer that can never be evergreen
Dreamworks' group has done it again. Altjough not remotely close to the stupendous graphics thay provided in Shark Tale and Shrek, Dreamworks has nevertheless provided entertainment for the family in a subtly ticklish form. The storyline of a zoo inmate trying to escape to the wild, followed by its 'ever' helpful friends, this story manages to scrape through as a comic genius, but fails to incorporate and blend emotions with its seemingly funny theme. Unrealistically cartoonish graphics coupled with a very mediocre storyline, it does indeed turn out to be a treat for kids.

Hyuk, hyuk hilarious
I'd give this film an Oscar for the funniest movie ever made. The lines were superb and the dubbing is outrageously hilarious.(My belly is still aching from all that laughing) And I'd like to see some of the characters from this movie go up on stage to collect the award and give their acceptance speech. That should bring the house down and make the awards show more enjoyable.

Wanna give the funnybone a tickle?
Some movies are categorised as children’s films while others fall into the adults group. But watching both kids and elders alike having a laughter session, I would only like to rate this as a movie for all age groups. But logic on the backseat and you’ll have a fun filled time. It might not be remembered amongst the greatest movies but the cast, story, music, screenplay surely made for more than an amusing fare. If you are feeling really down in life, I suggest just get of its DVD from somewhere and you’ll surely be tension free as long as the movie lasts.
