Discover an exemplary ‘convergence’ device in the i-mate PDA2

The i-mate PDA2 can be called a look alike of O2’s xda Iii in its features and appearance, measuring 6.9cm wide by 13cm deep by 1.9cm high, albeit with a modified black design around the buttons.

The i-mate PDA2 has an en suite 1.3-megapixel camera along with built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless facilities. Operating on the Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Phone Edition, Second Edition, the PDA2 features a tri-band GSM, GPRS phone, and accommodates the SIM card underneath the removable battery, which is again a very positive characteristic. Having an impressive 520MHz Intel PXA 272 processor, the PDA2’s fit-in camera can trap videos with a resolution of 240 by 320 pixels.

This device has 128MB of RAM as well as an equal quantity of RAM and a total 160.7MB of memory available. Nevertheless, the PDA2's screen resolution of 240 by 320 pixels seems to have forgotten that the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition OS backs resolutions extending to 640 by 480 pixels as well.

As per its software package, the PDA2 encompasses KSE Truefax, a manager for JAVA applications, backup and Zip management tools, along with a tool for employing the PDA2 as a modem with a notepad. Furthermore, it also possesses a pre-installed Skype, the Voice over IP client. Even though installing the free Skype client is not irksome, having anything readymade is always appreciated.

Sporting a set of top-notch features, the i-mate PDA2 gladly delivered a fine service during its trial. Installations and operations proceeded swiftly and rather effortlessly with its impressively quick processor and abundance of memory. Yet, the one gripe worth mentioning is the PDA2’s miserable battery life that undermines an otherwise remarkable device.

The i-mate PDA2 can be called a look alike of O2’s xda Iii in its features and appearance, measuring 6.9cm wide by 13cm deep by 1.9cm high, albeit with a modified black design around the buttons.

Efficient as PDA, inefficient as phone
I'm willing to overlook the poor 240 x 320 pixel resolution, because this gadget has served me well as a PDA. I also think the Skype pre-installed feature is great because calling someone over the Internet is far cheaper than using the phone. But I wish the batteries were better. They give just about four hours.

rubbish phone, really poor
I have the misfortune of owning the I-mate PDA2k. And mark my words, it absolutely sucks. The GPRS feature is as good as useless. And the Bluetooth function doesn’t work any better. The connection gets freezed very easily. It is a good PDA but the phone as good as nothing having one.
