Innovative gaming tool: Sony PSP

Sony’s first portable gaming tool, PlayStation Portable or PSP, is an attractive looking gadget created for the gamer freaks. In addition, it also allows you to play games, music, films etc.

Mostly black in colour and weighing 176g with a size 170 by 74 by 23 mm, the 109mm screen gives you a striking 480x272 pixels and 16.7 million colours.

The controls are similar to the ones found on PlayStations with directional buttons on the left and the square, triangle, circle, and X keys on the right of the screen. In contrast to PS2 controller's four total shoulder buttons, PSP has only two.

The PSP makes use of Sony’s recently created 'cross media bar' interface.

Universal Media Disc (UMD) houses games and officially licensed movies which are placed in shielding cartridges. The availability of infrared and a USB 2.0 port gives you the option of connecting the PSP to your PC or Mac.

A Memory Stick Duo card (32MB card) is also made available which can be used for saving game data and few photos or songs.

Since PSP supports M3U playlists, MP3 files can be played without you needing to convert it to Sony’s proprietary ATRAC format. In addition, PSP also has ingrained Wi-Fi capacities.

No problems. Only lots of fun.
Very good display screen that changes background colour with the month. Yes, I've had it for three months now. and the games Armored Core and Vampire Chronicles are an absolute riot. Gimme more Sony. I'm game. The only limitation I found is the sound. Use a headphone for best effects.

Great plazma screen, amazing graphics.
Did anybody tell you there's a zillion and one ways to keep boredom away? He's lying. There's only one way to keep boredom out of your life. And that is Sony PSP. The plasma screen makes the characters seem huge - larger than life; games like 'Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade' have the kind of impact you cannot expect even from movies; my kid brother loves playing Ridge Racer on the PSP.

simply the best
The PSP is way ahead of any IPod, Nintendo DS or portable DVD player. The games are much exciting than the Playstation ones. The download facility is also very good according to me. I can download any damn thing I want. The 32 MB memory stick gives limited memory but I purchased a 256MB stick by putting in some extra bucks. Watching movies on the UMD is great fun. It’s almost like your walking-talking portable PC but a much lower cost.
