Swift & attractive: Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W

Weighing a mere 7.8kg, the Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W has a swift 21pages per minute engine which churns out 1,200x1,200dpi grayscale documents. In addition, it also supports GDI page description. Specifically designed for Windows 98 (and other upgraded version), it won’t be of any use to Mac and Linux machines. The printer has USB 1.1 and the outdated IEEE 1284 parallel ports.

The Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W is 385mm wide and 260mm deep minus the paper tray and comes at a reasonable price of £130.

The page paper tray, which has the capacity to accommodate 150-pages, has a twofold function. It acts as a cover and has to be kept empty until you go to print. While printing, you reverse the paper tray and put in the papers. On the other hand, the page outtake tray can hold 100 papers. Printing pages come out in a C-shaped form through the printing device onto the outtake tray.

Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W has an 8MB buffer and with its rapid pace is competent enough to serve a small workgroup if an external print server is added.

Proficient in printing different varieties of paper sizes and weights, it gives good output with standard 80gsm paper and thick card stock equally well, as also with the durable off-white envelopes. It does not give out that great a result on lightweight paper though.

The software is inclusive of an ever-on monitor that which gives useful details regarding the printing process. The printer does not have a built-in duplexer for printing on both sides. However two-sided prints can be taken by checking out the options in the printer driver.

It looks are very attention-grabbing and with its size, fits perfectly for people with small desks.

Not good for prinitng photos; printing text, tables is OK
This printer is good only for line printing and pages that have text matter. I tried printing some B/W pix and they came out looking like poor photocopies. I believe some (Xerox)copiers give grainier printouts of photos/pix.

A bad printer
The first and foremost thing you want from a printer is excellent print quality. And Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W delivers on this front. But that’s not the complete story. I tried to print more than 10 pages once and the pace of printing was measly to say the least. Time and again you get a printer mismatch error which is another headache. And the sound is makes is close to unbearable. Please don’t squander your hard earned money on this printer.
