Best in daylight conditions: Canon MVX45i

Canon’s MVX45i is best for daylight shooting and not recommended in low-light conditions. With its large size and hefty weight (530g), it can’t be rated as a pocket camcorder. Available at a price range between £630 and £761, the Canon MVX45i offers features like manual exposure controls, optical picture stabilisation and camera-like still-photo features.

The controls like the zoom lever, the power and tape/card buttons are found on the right. A function button resides on the front which gives regularly used options like white balance, colour saturation etc. The Menu button is placed behind the LCD.

Also featuring an angled telescoping viewfinder, Canon's Advanced Accessory Shoe is useful for video lights and shotgun microphones. In addition, the MVX45i comes with a built-in white LED for brightening light images.

With a 1/3-inch CCD, the camcorder delivers 1.2 megapixels for video and 2.2 megapixels for photos. The Canon-made lens has a 14x zoom, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and manual focus ring.

Apart from an external-microphone input, the camcorder offers eight white-balance presets. It also provides a corded lens cap, a 16MB MultiMediaCard, USB and A/V cables, a wireless remote and manuals for both the camera and Canon's bundled software.

Good… but only for daylight photos
I guess u wud have got enough idea abt the camcorder's performance from the title of the review itself. Its’ really good for shooting natural, bright light but don’t even try it in dark conditions, you will only end up with a huge grimace. The LCD is reasonably good. Other video features are also not bad; u get a 16MB MultiMedia card and A/V cables. If only the night shooting features were better, I wud have rated it as a good camcorder.

Xcellent camcorder.
This camcorder offers 15 modes by which I can ensure the best shot whatever the circumstances. The multi-metering and auto-bracketing modes and the built-in flash ensure pictures with brilliant clarity and blur-free the kind u expect from a high-end digicam.

what's the point if I can't shoot in the evenings?
with this kind of price, one would expect a camcorder that can take pictures even in low light. Do they have an exchange scheme as i'm not impressed with this canon mvx45i thingy?
