Perfect for official use: Polaroid PP46d photo printer

The Polaroid PP46d photo printer has most of the accessories available with a home photo printer. Even so, it is better to keep it for your official use only. Making use of a four-pass (CMY plus overcoat), dye-diffusion thermal-transfer system, the 300dpi printer requires 90 seconds before delivering borderless 100x150mm photos.

Providing the cable is essential. It is also possible to attach the printer to a Windows system through its USB 1.1 interface. Alternatively, you can print directly from CompactFlash Type I, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro etc. Some require an optional adaptor though.

A small LCD preview screen can be located on the printer. As the Polaroid PP46d recognizes DPOF (Digital Print Order Format), it allows you place the photos in an order on your camera before putting the media card into the printer. Besides, you can also mark images for group printing.

Apart from one-print and group-printing facility, there is a provision available to print a 25-photo index sheet or use one of many multi-image, ID/passport-print set-ups. The printer also helps the user alter the brightness and sharpness of a picture before you print. One has to keep in mind though that all crucial changes must be made before the image is confined to the printer.

You get 36 prints from the thermal photo paper and ribbon pack costing £17 which effectively means each print is worth 47p.

Priced at £100, the printer seems to be specifically designed for official use with best viewing observed under luminous, office lights. In natural daylight, pictures might look a tad lacklustre.

Scrolling on its tiny preview screen is frustrating
If I am to arrange the order of all 36 prints, I should be able to see and discern pix from each other. If all pix happen to be shot indoors with the same setting, it's a tough task, very frustrating. The screen should be bigger.

prints are expensive but it's worth it i think
I think the best part of this polaroid photo printer is I can determine the order of the pictures. Then the paper quality also matters a great deal. Not cheap but good is my verdict
