Feature rich and thoughtfully designed new Sony DSC-H1
Sony is the latest entrant in the megazoom digital camera market with the launch of 12X-zoom Cyber Shot DSC-H1. This new 5-megapixel megazoom product by Sony is ideal for long distance photography where you want to capture an image without getting closer to it.
Thoughtfully designed, the H1 when loaded with a memory stick and two AA batteries weighs 1 pound, 2 ounces. The LCD is 2.5 inch wide and is equipped with a small electronic viewfinder. You can change between LCD and EVF views with the help of a button placed just above the LCD, where you also find the button for switching on the Super SteadyShot feature of the camera to choose whether it should work continuously or at the time of focus lock. On the top panelare the power button (which is at the same level as the camera surface), microphone, mode dial, and the shutter, focus and continuous/bracket buttons.
The front panel holds the zoom lever, and buttons to access the menu, the display options, and an image-quality/delete key. The menu is easy to browse and is also used to set the compression while resolution is set through an external button.
The 12x zoom lens of the camera comes with a 36mm-to-432mm focal length, which allows wide-angle viewing and telephoto reach. Features also include full manual exposure controls, and three-point adjustable sharpness, contrast, and saturation. This comes along with three metering modes, preset and custom white balance, and sensitivity levels from ISO 64 to ISO 400. The H1 incorporates seven standard scene modes, multiple AF focus modes, adjustable flash intensity, continuous shooting/bracketing, and a live histogram.
The movie mode allows you to capture images in 640x480 resolution at 30fps. You can set a video e-mail to send small video files over the internet. Though the compression options are limited to fine and standard, the movie capture quality is quite good.
A memory stick is a must as the internal memory is enough to hold only a few high resolution still images. The starting time for the camera is just about 2 seconds, and if you are not using the flash, the time between shots could be as less as 1.3 seconds. Images were accurate and natural, and image noise is kept under control, at least till as high as ISO 200 after which it becomes more prominent. The images, however, were slightly soft and lacking in fine details. The focus too, seemed to drop off sharply towards the left of the lens.
Though a little heavier than other competing models, the incredible features and the extra weight gives it a more solid feel. It comes with two 2,100mAh rechargeable nickel-metal-hydride batteries and a compact charger. A separate AC adapter will have to be purchased if you want AC power. The CD consists of a tutorial and the camera further comes bundled with a printed manual and Read This First pamphlet.

Gr8 pictures in all conditions
The Sony DSC-H1 is sure to impress u as it takes absolutely marvellous pictures. Yup, what’s more, you get gr8 pics both in bright and dim light. Colour representation in a majority of the pics is very much accurate. Then, there is also a nice 2.5 inch display through which you can view the photos and I bet you will not be disappointed with a majority of the pictures.

digicam makers have finally got the idea right for once
As a professional photographer I know a good camera when I see one. But I never touched a digicam since I saw the first one and its results. This one however is made for those who know what photography is all about. This one has a couple of drawbacks too,(like it would be even better if one could add some lenses and filters of one's choice) but I can easily overook them.

works great…
Well to be honest, this cam is fantastic. I had purchased this as I lost by previous camera. In a way, I’m grateful the old one got lost. This camera does just about everything perfectly. Here, I can change the settings according to my wishes. The auto point-n-shoot feature also works well. The batteries drain out a bit too quickly and you have to worry about recharging. The price too isn’t affordable for all. But at the end of the I would rate it as a worthy camera.
