Samsung SCH-i730 : A wireless wonder
The Samsung SCH-i730 looks very much like the famous Palm Treo 650, saving its thickness. Measuring 2.28 by 0.97 by 4.49 inches, the i730 sports a 65,000-color touch screen and offers complete compatibility with Windows Mobile applications that are not very often seen in other smart phones.
The Samsung SCH-i730 carries a 520MHz Intel PXA272 processor, a 64MB internal RAM and a flash memory of 128MB with an SDIO/MMC expansion slot. Running the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, the i730 presents an entire set of PIM functions besides providing all Pocket forms of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
The i730 seems to have kept the likes of music and movie lovers in mind as well! Movie and Entertainment buffs will definitely cherish the much-loved Windows Media Player 10.0 that also supports PlaysForSure WMA files derived from music stores online like Napster and Musicmatch. What’s more, this novel Samsung presentation comes with some excellent extra applications that include the “Sprite Backup” and “Verizon's Wireless Sync push e-mail client”.
Nevertheless, just as every virtue exists with some or the other flaw, the i730 too has its own drawbacks. It does not offer Bluetooth dial-up networking support which means that one cannot utilise the i730 in the form of a wireless modem in tandem with a laptop and has to work straight on the device itself when no access point for a laptop is available. In another oddity, the phone feature in the i730 simply ceases to operate while Wi-Fi radio is in use. Therefore, incoming calls cannot be attended as they are automatically directed to the voicemail. At the same time, the Samsung i730’s impressive speakerphone quality is sure to offset these little quirks, which cannot be termed as very serious or meaningful. You will also be pleased to see the VoiceSignal software that will allow you to make a call simply by pushing the key on the Bluetooth headset and utter “Call name.”
The Samsung SCH-i730’s performance as far as voice and data coverage is concerned, is not in the least disappointing, instead it proved itself here with great élan. However, because of the missing analog support, network coverage is certain pastoral regions did pose a problem. Meanwhile, the i730 comes with a pair of batteries, a 1,100mAh standard battery along with a thicker 1,700mAh extended battery. But, you should be warned that the Wi-Fi feature is a real battery glutton so carry an extended battery to keep yourself from being stranded.

This is sure to impress you
I personally feel the PDA functionality for Samsung is much better compared to Palm. Having said that, the features can’t be termed as user friendly. For example you cannot get 2 know whether or not u have a missed call on ur phone by just glancing at the screen. It requires an unnecessary process like clicking on an icon. Internet speeds of this Samsung are very much acceptable. And all the other essential features too will be found.

automatic voicemail (while playing the radio) is a bummer.
Can Samsung tell me how to keep the phone on when I play the radio? All calls during this time are directed to voicemail, which I don't like. On the plus side, I'd say the Windows Media Player is something my pals' phones don't have. I have downloaded so many songs from Napsters and sharing with my buddies. It's good except for when it goes off while I play the radio.

Just short of perfection.
I absolutely loved this cell. The PDA functions are almost perfect even though you’ll need sometime to get used to them. You can download virtually any MP3 files, which is absolutely great. Voice dialing is also a good feature. But there are a couple of things which I didn’t like. The BT DUN profile should definitely have been added. And why on earth can’t the use Wi-fi and the phone together? Anyways, overall though I found it a good deal
