HP Pavilion zd8000 is an all-in-one champ
The HP Pavilion zd8000 is designed to provide you with the most complete digital experience of your life. The notebook combines into a TV, a video recorder, a stereo, and a very useful computer. As of now there is no competition in the market that can give you this powerful package all rolled into a sleek machine.
As can be expected form such a power-packed device, the Pavilion is a shade heavy at 9.5 pounds. Otherwise it is quite standard and is 15.6 inches wide, 11.1 inches deep, and 2.1 inches thick. The external looks are classy in the silver-black finish. The keyboard in this large machine is full-size and among other buttons features big backspace and shift keys. It has also got configurable quick-launch keys that include an on/off switch for the Wi-Fi.
This switch is pretty useful in extending the battery life. The Harman Kardon stereo speakers are aligned at the front of the system, which means that you can switch them on even if the lid is closed. The new addition in this model is an ExpressCard slot for the new PCI Express-based modules, which are thought to be faster than the conventional PC cards. The Pavilion zd8000 is equipped with four USB ports and a flash card reader to take care of the Secure Digital, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMediaCard and SmartMedia applications. Getting online is easy with the Gigabit Ethernet and the in-built V.92 modem. It also has Bluetooth and 802.11b/g data radios. The TV Tuner/Digital Video Recorder is quite adequate for watching movies and the presence of Microsoft Windows Media XP 2005 means that it gives users an added flexibility of watching one show while taping the other.
The machine has also got an in-built FM radio and a powerful ATI graphics card. On the downside, it is rather heavy and not suited for business travelers. Additionally, the noisy fans can get irritating after some time.

Hot spots
All said and done I agree that it's got some snazzy features. However, I must mention that my wrists developed hot spots as the machine heats up incredibly on prolonged use.

Battery?
Well, as far as I am concerned, the Pavilion zd8000 is heavy and besides has got a pretty short battery life. These are the only minus points however. My son loves the graphics on his games and when he is happy, I am happy as well!

Too Good.
The features are absolutely out of this world. It is a utility machine for people who have to constantly shift their homes. However, I agree with the review that the noisy fans are zilch. I hardly got any sleep at night with the whirring noise until I shifted it to the other room.
