The Nextel i836’s design surely deserves a pat on the back and can be considered nothing less than a revolutionary move by Nextel, almost branded as the bulky phone maker! With the Nextel i836, Nextel has ushered in a modern and sleek look for its range of phones which is definitely good news for all mobile users. The i836 handset is packed in an unusual dark box of wood that is lined with felt. Just unfasten the lid and lo! You have your new phone with a Nextel pocket watch along with a smart leather house for itself! Well, talk about being self-sufficient!
The i836 phone that is called an “an instant classic” by Nextel, is light and comfortable enough to fit into your hand as well as your pocket, measuring only 3.4 by 1.9 by 0.8 inches and weighing 3.6 ounces. This might not be the smallest phone ever tested, but it surely is the tiniest in the Nextel family.
However, this piece is not without faults and its indistinct external and internal screens can queue up first in this category. Even though its monochrome external display does perform its duties well, showing the time, the network coverage, battery life, caller ID (where available) etc, the small rectangular size of the display is disappointing and inconvenient for users to see. At least important Web surfing or multimedia applications cannot be carried out here with the display’s already exhausted effect.
As for its navigation control features, the i836 has a five-way knob with two soft keys and separate power and menu buttons with the usual Talk/Call and End/Hang up keys. All these buttons are very tidily placed on the phone and give a spacious neat look. The phone’s integral phone directory has a capacity of about 600 contacts, and can store a good seven numbers for each contact in addition to an e-mail address. Furthermore, the phone offers three polyphonic and 12 monophonic ring tones that can be allotted to particular people. The i836 also enables word and number voice-activated dialling service if the phone is to be used hands free.
Then again, the Nextel Motorola i836’s minimal battery life does pose a big question on its feasibility. For the regular user who doesn’t move around much, it might suffice you with its battery. But, for an executive who is frequently on the move and outside the assured ranges, this phone will need an extra battery. Therefore, don’t forget to take into account the cost of a backup battery while purchasing the Nextel Motorola i836. |
